During camp planning and execution Glimmer Camp leadership and volunteers endeavor to center the following values and practices. We are not perfect humans. We acknowledge and hold space for the fact that there will be missteps and the execution of Glimmer Camp may not always be in alignment with these values. In these instances we will learn, do better and work towards repair. We will also endeavor to hold ourselves and all Glimmer Camp volunteers and campers in grace and compassion.
We invite all participants to center these values in our interactions with each other at Glimmer Camp. We want everyone to come as you are, and by centering these values and practices we will cultivate an environment where everyone can show up as our authentic selves. In our dreams Glimmer Camp is a place where we are free of the messages and norms that oppress us all. Come dream with us.
Provide clear and complete information. Camp map, schedule, policies, facility descriptions, agreements, are all provided in advance.
Provide choice. Within the context of Camp Rules and Code of Conduct, everyone chooses when and how to participate in camp programming and the camp environment.
A variety of lodging accommodations are available offering varying degrees of privacy and access to facilities.
We will not gate-keep this event, everyone who identifies as LGBTQ+ and are 21+ are welcome at Glimmer Camp. All gender identities and expressions, sexual and romantic orientations, etc. will be respected and valued at Glimmer Camp.
We prioritize activities that resonate with folks systemically excluded from camp experiences due to intersecting marginalized identities especially but not limited to LGBTQ+, BIPOC, and neurodivergence.
All bodies are good bodies. We support body liberation for all, especially but not limited to; fat bodies, disabled bodies, non binary bodies, trans bodies, brown bodies, black bodies.
Within the environment provided of the camp property and real resources available, every effort is made to accommodate bodies of all sizes, shapes, and abilities. Please contact us if you have believe the facilities or activities are barriers to your attendance- we will do our very best to work towards a solution with you.
Everyone has the right to make voluntary, informed, conscious, and reversible choices.
No one is required to participate in any part of camp aside from abiding by Camp Rules and Code of Conduct.
Please ask other participants' permission before taking photos of videos that include them. Official camp photographer(s) will wear identifiers so you are aware of when they are recording group gatherings. They will be happy to delete any photos/videos that include you, just check in.
All participants, including campers and volunteers, are expected to adhere to the following Code of Conduct (CoC). Significant violations of the CoC may result in dismissal from camp and/or denial of registration for future Glimmer Camp events. Refunds will not be granted for dismissal from camp.
All participants will take care of Camp Cleawox facilities, equipment, and the natural environment to the best of their ability. Camp Cleawox property and facilities will only be used as intended. All participants will stay out of closed Camp Cleawox areas (such as docks when the swimming area is not open).
Participants will make an effort to learn and respect each others' pronouns.
Participants will respect boundaries set by others including photos, physical space and contact, engaging in topics of conversation, participation in Glimmer Camp activities, etc. Participants will not assume other people are aware of their boundaries if they have not articulated them.
Physical intimacy is supported, and when engaging in physical intimacy participants are expected to be aware of their surroundings and other people in shared spaces- not everyone is safe or comfortable passively participating in others' intimacy.
Participants will not engage in exclusionary behavior including but not limited to teasing, ridiculing, insulting, ignoring, objectifying, or diminishing.
Participants are responsible for the safety and care of their own bodies, hearts, and minds.
While we vet Glimmer Camp volunteers and some activity leaders require certification, participants should not participate in any Glimmer Camp activity that does not feel safe or right for them. Please inform Glimmer Camp leadership of any safety concerns that arise while at camp. The views and opinions expressed by Glimmer Camp volunteers do not necessarily reflect those of Glimmer Camp.
Conflict is a normal part of the human experience, and we expect that it may arise during Glimmer Camp. When it does, we offer the following guide to approach it:
If discomfort arises as a result of interactions with other Glimmer Camp participant(s) we encourage folks to considering the following when deciding on how to respond:
Tune into your body. What are you noticing? Is the discomfort arising from someone expressing perspectives or experiences that are different from yours? Is the discomfort arising because the words or actions reinforce systems of oppression? How can this information help you decide how to proceed?
Are there ways that you can tend to your own needs during Glimmer Camp? Are there appropriate boundaries you can set with yourself and others?
Are you interested in, and able to, call-in the other involved participants with grace, respect, and compassion?
Glimmer Camp volunteers will not facilitate mediation, group accountability processes or repair for conflict or harm that occurs between participants including campers and volunteers. Glimmer Camp leadership can support participants in figuring out what steps they can take to tend to their own needs. As a result of conflict or harm, Glimmer Camp leadership may take actions such as changing participants’ activity schedules or sleeping assignments, or dismissing participants from Glimmer Camp as a last resort in cases of serious violations of the Code of Conduct.
There are no refunds for glimmer camp fees due to a participant voluntarily leaving the event for any reason or being dismissed from the event by camp leadership or the property manager.
