Glimmer Camp stands in solidarity with Indigenous peoples across the planet from Turtle Island to Palestine. We support Indigenous sovereignty, the Land Back movement, and the Missing and Murdered Indigenous Women, Girls, and Two-Spirit People movement.
While we hold this intention, we acknowledge that Glimmer Camp is not yet in relationship with Indigenous groups in our community. We endeavor to not only make Glimmer Camp a safe and affirming space for our Indigenous queer and Two-Spirit siblings, but to also establish and nurture relationships rooted in collective liberation with local Indigenous groups.
And so, as we thought about how we might express our solidarity we have chosen not to use a land acknowledgement statement, as in the absence of relationship it feels performative and inauthentic to us. We choose to express our solidarity through a commitment to taking actions that demonstrate our intention.
This year Glimmer Camp is supporting the haich ikt'at'uu (formerly Waite Ranch) restoration project led by the Confederated Tribes of the Coos, Lower Umpqua, and Siuslaw Indians through donation and volunteerism. The land being restored is just a few miles away from Til'wax (Lake Cleawox) in the ancestral homelands of the Siusalw people where Glimmer Camp 2025 will take place. This project will restore the estuary, re-establish tidal exchange between the river and the property's interior, and restore culturally significant species and access to indigenous communities.
